If a user changes the system settings of the HDGUARD-protected PC, downloads a virus, accidentally deletes vital data from the hard drive or otherwise renders the system inoperable, the PC simply needs to be restarted to restore it to its original clean, stable state.
The general protection function of HDGUARD is based on an ingenious back-up principle: Once the PC or notebook has been started up, HDGUARD registers in detail any changes that users or applications make in the protected area, reroutes changed data to a separate section and stores this data there, leaving the protected area in its original state. This does not in any way whatsoever restrict the functionality of the PC or notebook – all functions continue to be available and the user sees their usual working environment. When the PC or notebook is restarted, any changes registered during the last session are simply discarded. The protected areas of the PC or notebook are available to the user in their original state.
Because the system does not need to restore a complete hard drive image, there is no marked time delay when rebooting HDGUARD-protected PCs.
